Rodgers, who initially noticed Lookman during his time at Charlton, had expressed a keen interest in signing the winger while managing Celtic.
Speaking when he signed him on loan at Leicester, Rodgers recalled his first impressions of Lookman, stating, “I wanted to take him to Celtic when he was at Charlton,” as Quoted by The Sun.
“I was aware of him when he was 15. He has all the tools, has a great dribbling ability, how he views the game, he has an eye for a goal.”
Although Lookman eventually joined Leicester City on loan under Rodgers, his career trajectory took him further, leading to his eventual move to Atalanta. This transfer was facilitated by Lee Congerton, a key figure in Atalanta’s recruitment strategy, who had previously worked with Rodgers at Celtic and followed him to Leicester in 2019. Congerton is now working in Saudi Arabia.
Rodgers and Congerton had many targets which they missed out on at Celtic who have gone all the way to the top, including Moussa Diaby and Christopher Nkunku.
They wanted to sign the pair while they were still in PSG’s academy and not breaking through into first-team football.#
