Phoenix Rise is a coming-of-age drama set in Coventry that tells the tales of six kids who, through the ups and downs of school life, develop an unshakable relationship.
Phoenix Rise is currently available on BBC iPlayer.
On Tuesday, May 28, BBC Three will also air the drama, which took home the Royal Television Society Midlands Award for Best Scripted Series.
In the sixth episode, Ben Sheaf offers teenage football player Darcy (Jaden Hanley) the chance to train in Coventry City. Invigorated, Darcy is prepared to dazzle the scout who will be seeing him perform later that day. Mr. Edwards, his teacher, gives him encouragement, saying that Darcy deserves a chance to pursue his goal because his time is now.
Filming at the Arena also included a number of Sky Blues Academy staff and young players as extras too.
Ben discussed the August filming at the Coventry Building Society Arena in an interview with the BBC.
The last time I performed, I believe, was in elementary school. To be honest, I believe I played Joseph in a play.
They told me I did a wonderful job, but I’m not sure if they were telling me lies to cheer me up.
It was a positive encounter. I had no idea how much work was done in the background.
“The actors and staff were incredibly helpful and made me feel at home.”
It was an unfamiliar experience, and I’m glad I went through with it.
