BREAKING NEWS: CELTIC FACE TRANSFER BATTLE WITH MANCHESTER CITY, AND STAR HAS RELEASE CLAUSE.

When Pep Guardiola comes knocking for you, it must seem like a huge praise. Consider this a confirmation that you’re on the correct course. Despite just signing a new deal and seemingly putting transfer rumors to rest, suggestions that Manchester City is now pursuing a man who had previously emerged on Celtic’s radar have reintroduced one of the Bundesliga’s breakout prospects into the gossip columns.

If Joe Hart is a former Manchester City goalkeeper, might Michael Zetterer be the club’s future shot-stopper? BILD certainly thinks so, with the German daily stating that a guy rumored to be lined up to replace Hart at Celtic might now follow in the retiring shot-stopper’s footsteps at the Etihad. The German tabloid believes that the Premier League champions are interested in Werder Bremen’s number one.

Manchester City join Celtic in goalkeeper chase

Zetterer’s contract has a release provision that will expire in mid-June. As you might expect, given that the 28-year-old has been associated with teams led by Pep Guardiola and Brendan Rodgers, Zetterer is more than just a goalkeeper; he is also a starter of attacks, where his accurate distribution comes in handy. Any City or Celtic goalkeeper must be equally at ease with the ball at his feet as with his hands. And Zetterer, a prospective replacement for Stefan Ortega with Saudi Arabian clubs vying for Guardiola’s current backup, has shown significant progress in his distribution over the last year or so.

“He has earned this contract extension through his good performances,” Werder’s goalkeeping coach Christian Vander remarked when the German renewed his contract a few weeks ago.

You can see that Zetti’s abilities benefit the squad, particularly his offensive play.”

Celtic need a Joe Hart replacement

Zetterer, who has now established himself as Werder’s number one after displacing Jiri Pavlenka, stated a few weeks ago that he wants to stay at the Weser Stadium. Man City’s interest is expected to put his commitment to the test, but the thought of European action and a chance at silverware with Celtic may also be appealing. “After such a long time at this club, I am happy and proud to have extended my long-term contract with Werder as number one,” Zetterer told BILD after signing the extension in May. “I want to give everything for Werder in the Bundesliga in the coming years to achieve our goals.”

HITC reports that Manchester City is also keeping an eye on Roma’s Mile Svilar. Celtic, meanwhile, have named Liverpool’s Caomhin Kelleher as their first-choice Hart replacement. Trabzonspor captain Ugurcan Cakir is also on the radar, as are Aston Villa youngster Viljami Sinisalo and free agent Etienne Vaessen.
