SAD NEWS: Ex-Collingwood defender, former Crow hit with SANFL bans

The pair have both been charged following separate incidents from Round 9.

Jack Madgen, the captain of the Adelaide SANFL, will likely miss his team’s next match due to a one-match penalty for using derogatory language towards an umpire.

The SANFL’s Match Review Panel released its conclusions on Tuesday night. The umpire and the MRP were incensed over Madgen’s third-term altercation with a match official during his team’s game against South Adelaide.

The video footage of Madgen’s outbursts after a holding-the-ball call against the Crows shows that he used “abusive, insulting or obscene language towards or in relation to an umpire.” Madgen was deemed to have done this.

In addition, Madgen received a 25-meter penalty for his verbal abuse.

Due to his suspension, the captain of the Crows will not play for his team on Saturday at Adelaide Oval against Woodville-West Torrens. Given Adelaide’s bye in Round 11, the skipper will make his comeback against Glenelg in Round 12.

Not only did Magden receive a suspension for his actions over the weekend, but Eagles star James Rowe was also charged with aggressive conduct and given a one-game punishment.

A sharp jolt Brinn Little of Central District received a one-game suspension for careless conduct, high contact, and medium impact during the third term of Woodville-West Torrens’ game against the Bulldogs.

As the Dogs players attempted to retrieve the ball, the former Crow made contact with Little’s head. Rowe appeared to move past the ball and put his opponent to the ground, but Little slowly got back up and accepted a free kick after Rowe was called for making high contact.

In the event that the 24-year-old accepts the punishment, Rowe’s prospects of winning the Magarey Medal would be severely limited after his impressive 2024 season debut.

Rowe will also miss his team’s next match against Adelaide due to a one-game suspension. He will next be eligible for selection in Round 12 against North Adelaide.
