Coventry City duo touted for summer exit as Man Utd loan prediction revealed

FLW’s Coventry City fan pundit has given his view on some of the transfers that could happen at the club this summer.

This post is a part of the “Terrace Talk” series from Football League World, whereby our FLW Fan Pundits provide their personal thoughts on the newest breaking news, teams, players, managers, possible signings, and more.

Next season, Coventry City intends to contend for promotion from the Championship.

The Sky Blues had a difficult start to the season after losing top players Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer in the summer, and they were defeated by Luton Town on penalties in the play-off final of the 2022–2023 season.

After a notable improvement in their performance in the second half of the season, Coventry rose from as low as 20th place in the table in late November to the top six spots.

The Sky Blues finished ninth in the league and lost out on the play-off spots, but given their FA Cup heroics, it will be considered another successful season under Mark Robins’ direction.Coventry staged one of the most incredible comebacks in FA Cup history when they defeated Manchester United 3-0 in the semi-final at Wembley to force extra time. However, they lost on penalties to the eventual competition winners after a late goal was disallowed for offside.

With veteran players like Simon Moore and Liam Kelly leaving at the end of their contracts and midfielder Callum O’Hare probably heading somewhere after turning down a new contract offer, Robins has begun his summer rebuilding.

In order to get ready for another promotion push, the Sky Blues will be eager to bolster their roster this summer, and owner Doug King may once again give Robins strong support in the transfer market.Coventry City fan pundit on potential summer business

Goalie Ben Wilson and attacker Matty Godden, according to FLW’s Coventry City fan pundit Neil Littlewood, may depart the team this summer.

Godden finished the season with nine goals in 41 games in all competitions, however he saw a decline in playing time as the season went on, and he has been linked to a transfer to League One team Charlton Athletic.

Wilson had an amazing 22 clean sheets in 47 games during the 2022–2023 season, however he only made 22 appearances and was benched twice by Brad Collins.

Neil also predicted that the Sky Blues will recruit a player on loan from Manchester United this summer following their FA Cup match. Wright is a striker who has 19 goals and eight assists in 50 games this season. He may draw interest from other teams in January.

“So my first prediction is that Matty Godden leaves the football club,” Neil stated.

“Last season, when he was Simms and Wright’s second or third fiddle, he gave off an air of frustration.

“We might be looking to add another striker, in my opinion.

“We have to hold Matty Godden in the highest regard; without him, our football team would not be where it is today, but I believe that time has finally caught up to him.

“I believe he might still be useful for a team toward the bottom of the table, maybe even a League One team looking to get promoted, and he can score goals.

“I think Charlton was mentioned, and I think it would be a fantastic move for him.

Since he still maintains a base in Kent, it would be closer to home and require less travel.

Since it’s a lower level, he could go there and have fun scoring goals, and they would adore him.

“First of all, I think Matty Godden will move on. If I had to take a risk, I would tell Charlton.

“My second forecast is that, by January, I believe offers for Haji Wright will start to pour in.

“I believe he’s the kind of guy teams would look to add to their rosters in January.

“It’s possible, but I don’t want that to happen.

“I believe that Ben Wilson’s potential to move on this summer is more certain.

“Two seasons ago, he won the golden glove, lost in a penalty shoot-out in the promotion play-off final, and was fired by Brad Collins.

“I think he’s at the stage of his career where he’s had a taste of being number one now and will still want to be a number one, so I could see Ben Wilson moving on this summer. He got back in, was kicked out again.

“I believe we are getting a Man United player on loan when it comes to new players.

“I don’t know who, but I believe we demonstrated our philosophy and style of play, as well as our ability to play football, following the FA Cup semifinal.

“I believe Man United’s executives will take a close look at that and conclude that it would be a nice place for our players to go and develop their skills.

“I’m going to take a risk and suggest that we get a Man United loan player; I’d pick Amad Diallo, but I believe he will be involved in the squad.

Although I’ve always thought Dan Gore looked good, I’m not sure if he’s ready for this level yet.

“I don’t know who, but I’ve just got an inkling that we will sign someone from Man United on loan.”
