National teams utilize Drua facilities.

Four national rugby teams have used the Fijian Drua facilities in Nadi this week. Despite the end of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific and Super Rugby W seasons, the Drua base remains a hub of activity. This week, the Flying Fijians, Fiji Airways Men’s 7s, Vodafone Fijiana 15s, and Fiji Under 20 teams took turns using the facilities provided absolutely free of charge by the Drua as they prepare for critical campaigns in the coming weeks.

Fijian Drua CEO Mark Evans says they’ve been quite busy this week coordinating the four teams. According to Evans, all teams can utilize the fully equipped gym, which includes specific rugby training equipment such as scrum sleds, ski machines, vertical leap sets, an indoor running track, a dedicated activation area with wrestling mats, and other gear. He adds that they can also use the state-of-the-art temperature-controlled ‘i-cool’ ice baths to help athletes recuperate, as well as our in-house medical center, which specializes in rehabilitation for wounded sportsmen. Two Drua coaches, Ifereimi Rawaqa and Greg Fleming, have been allocated to the U20s coaching staff at no cost to the FRU.

The Flying Fijians are gearing up for the July Test season, as they prepare to go for the United Kingdom, where they will face the Barbarians on Sunday at 4:15am, live on FBC Sports. They’ll then face Georgia before facing the All Blacks in San Diego, USA. The 7s team is practicing for the Paris Olympics, while the Fijiana team will play their second Test against Japan on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Churchill Park in Lautoka. The match will also be broadcast live on FBC Sports. Our national Under-20 rugby team will compete in the Junior World Championship in South Africa next month.
