Despite this, Dane Swan was honored as the fourth inductee during Tuesday’s gala in Melbourne, alongside legends like Jason Dunstall, Chris McDermott, Kelvin Templeton, and Ralph Robertson.

Swan, beloved by the Magpie Army, played a pivotal role in Collingwood’s successful years under coaches Mick Malthouse and Nathan Buckley, leading the famous ‘rat pack’. Known for his unconventional appearance and occasional off-field controversies, Swan shone on the field, contributing significantly to Collingwood’s 2010 premiership and earning the Brownlow Medal the following season.

During his career, Swan was named All-Australian five times consecutively from 2009 to 2013 and secured Collingwood’s best-and-fairest award, the Copeland Trophy, for three consecutive years from 2008 to 2010. His achievements also included the AFL Players Association MVP award and the Jim Stynes Medal.

Swan retired in 2016 due to a serious foot injury after playing 258 games for Collingwood. Beyond his statistics, he was admired for his football intelligence, strength, and speed on the field, as well as his laid-back approach to both football and life, which resonated with the Magpie Army and football fans alike.
