Juventus Starlet Set to Agree Personal Terms with Aston Villa

Juventus and Aston Villa are determined to finalize a long-negotiated swap deal involving Douglas Luiz and two players from Juventus. According to Fabrizio Romano, Enzo Barrenechea is close to agreeing on contract terms with the Premier League club, which would facilitate the Brazilian star’s move to Serie A.

Weston McKennie was initially intended to be part of this intricate swap agreement. However, he almost left Juventus empty-handed after rejecting Aston Villa’s contract offer. Fortunately, sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli managed to circumvent this issue by proposing Barrenechea as a replacement.

The 23-year-old Barrenechea joined Juventus in 2022 as a highly promising talent but struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team at Allianz Stadium. He was loaned to Frosinone to gain experience, which proved to be a successful move. Barrenechea made 36 league appearances for the Canaries, becoming one of the most promising midfield prospects in Serie A. However, after Frosinone’s relegation to Serie B, he returned to Turin this summer, only to move on again.

Juventus included a 10% sell-on clause in the deal, likely recognizing Barrenechea’s growing potential. In addition to the Argentine, Samuel Iling-Junior will also join Aston Villa as part of the deal, which will bring Luiz to Thiago Motta’s team.

Luiz’s impending arrival could mark the end of McKennie’s career at Juventus, with Major League Soccer’s FC Cincinnati preparing a bid to bring him back to the United States this summer.
