A BBC man responds when he learns that Celtic is trying to sign a “smart signing”

Former Scotland international and BBC analyst Alan Hutton responded to the report that Celtic has put in a bid to sign a “smart signing” during the summer transfer window. News of a Celtic move Before what might be a hectic summer in the transfer market, the Hoops have been connected to a number of players. Dominik Livakovic, the goalkeeper for Fenerbahce, has been suggested as a potential addition.

After winning the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup, Joe Hart announced his retirement from football, and Livakovic is thought to be the best candidate to go in between the posts. “Extensive talks” are apparently underway to finalize a deal, with Celtic putting up a proposal of £7.6 million for his services.

In other news, Mark Travers, a 25-year-old goalkeeper who was loaned out to Stoke City in the Championship last season, is believed to be a target for Brendan Rodgers as a replacement for Livakovic at Bournemouth.

Another player rumored to be joining Celtic in the summer is Fotis Ioannidis, who is viewed as the ideal offensive partner for Matt O’Riley, the standout player for the Hoops. The attacker for Panathinaikos demonstrated his footballing heritage last season by scoring five goals in as many starts in the Europa League.

Pundit talks up Celtic completing Livakovic signing

In an interview with Football Insider, BBC pundit Hutton touted the possibility of Celtic landing Livakovic in the summer, calling the asking price a “huge sum.”

Signing him would be a wise move if he performs as expected by everyone. They have the potential to profit greatly from it. The Euros typically have an impact on that; as we’ve seen in the past, if he plays exceptionally well there, his valuation might skyrocket. “It will be fascinating to observe the outcome. Although they are significant sums, I believe Celtic is a team that can afford those costs, particularly if they receive funding. We’ll have to wait and see how things work out, but Celtic has the financial wherewithal to invest that much.”

Livakovic, a 29-year-old player with a ton of experience and plenty of remaining years to compete at the highest level, is a great fit for Celtic.

With 56 caps overall at the international level, the Fenerbahce player is presently playing for Croatia at Euro 2024. He started both of his country’s opening two games at the competition and was a key player in helping his country advance to the 2022 World Cup semifinals.

Livakovic stands up as a great pick to replace Hart, even if he will undoubtedly have large shoes to fill given how important the Englishman was to Celtic for a considerable amount of time. Considering his age, there’s no reason he couldn’t be an excellent replacement, if not an improvement.
