A favourite Birmingham City player is close to making a significant move to the Indian Super League

The latest transfer news from BirminghamLive as this former Blues favourite is set for a new chapter in his career

Birmingham City's Jon Toral celebrates scoring his side's first goal of the game during the Sky Bet Championship match at the Madejski Stadium, Reading.
Former Birmingham City forward Jon Toral is nearing a move to Indian Super League side Mumbai City, as reported by IFTWC. The 29-year-old Spaniard is in discussions to finalize the deal after completing medical examinations and other administrative formalities.

Toral’s potential transfer is seen as a significant move for Mumbai City, underlining the growing allure of the ISL to players with substantial experience in European leagues. He is expected to fill the void left by Greg Stewart, another former Birmingham City player who recently departed the ISL to join Kilmarnock in Scotland.

For Toral, this move marks a fresh chapter in a career that has seen him traverse Spain, England, Scotland, and most recently Greece, where he played for OFI Crete in the Greek Super League. During his three seasons in Crete, Toral made 78 appearances and scored 15 goals, contributing significantly to the club’s campaigns in the highly competitive league.

Toral’s association with Birmingham City includes two spells, the first as a standout performer under Gary Rowett during the 2015/16 season, where he earned accolades such as Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season. His return in the 2020/21 season, however, was marred by injuries and inconsistent team selection under manager Aitor Karanka, resulting in limited playing time and one goal in 18 appearances.

Now, Toral looks forward to a fresh challenge in the dynamic setting of the Indian Super League, aiming to make an impact with Mumbai City as they prepare for the upcoming season.
