Looking back on his time at The Hawthorns, Robert Koren called West Brom supporters “brilliant” and said he played under some of the best managers, including Steve Bruce. The 43-year-old joined West Brom on a free transfer from Norwegian team Lillestrom and played there from 2007 to 2010. He was successful because, under Tony Mowbray, his team overcame heartbreak during the play-offs to win the Championship title in grand fashion.

Robert Koren described West Brom fans as “brilliant” and stated he had the pleasure of playing for some of the greatest managers, notably Steve Bruce, when reflecting on his time at The Hawthorns. The 43-year-old played for West Brom from 2007 to 2010 after leaving Norwegian outfit Lillestrom on a free transfer. He was successful because, under Tony Mowbray’s leadership, his club triumphed spectacularly in the championship game after suffering heartbreak throughout the play-offs.

I was given the opportunity by manager Tony Mowbray, and together we produced some excellent football in the Championship and Premier League afterwards. “I had an amazing time there, and the fans are amazing. I still love to go back and watch some games.”

We had a very strong team under Tony Mowbray’s management, who wanted to play a different style of football with lots of possession. “I also played under Steve Bruce, who was a different kind of manager who expected you to perform at your highest level every single day. He was one of the best managers I ever played under at Hull, having chosen to lead the team, so we got along well.

At the Hawthorns, Koren played with a wide range of players. The legendary Kevin Phillips of the English Football League assisted him in settling here, while Paul Robinson, who was most recently a coach at Birmingham City, was praised as a “really good player.” But Koren remembered it most fondly when he played alongside former Nottingham Forest player Jonathan Greening, with whom he forged a partnership in the center of midfield. “During my first year in England, I played with some incredible players, especially at West Brom,” Koren continued.

“A few players really stood out and gave me a lot of assistance both during practice and during the games. Kevin Phillips is a fantastic striker who enjoys scoring goals and is a wonderful person. We also had two excellent players, Paul Robinson and Jonathan Greening. We played midfield together, and I picked up a lot of knowledge from Jono as well. both within and without the field. Likewise with Robbo and Kevin. They are seasoned players on our team, as I mentioned, and they have always supported us when we needed guidance or assistance.
