Shaun Lane Nearing New Deal with Parramatta Eels
Parramatta Eels forward Shaun Lane is set to extend his stay with the club, despite being linked with an exit earlier this year. According to *Wide World of Sports*, Lane is on the verge of signing a one-year contract extension, securing his place in the Eels’ plans for the future.
The news comes as a surprise given that Lane was reportedly told he could explore other opportunities just four months ago. He was among several players, including Maika Sivo and Reagan Campbell-Gillard, granted permission to leave as new head coach Jason Ryles reshaped the roster. Both Sivo and Campbell-Gillard have since departed, with Sivo joining the Super League and Campbell-Gillard signing with the Gold Coast Titans.
Lane has been a crucial part of the Eels’ forward pack since joining the club in 2019, following stints with the Canterbury Bulldogs, New Zealand Warriors, and Manly Sea Eagles. Nicknamed the “Lane Train,” the 29-year-old has made 133 appearances for Parramatta and is closing in on career milestones. With 181 NRL games to his name, the new deal could see him reach his 200th game and celebrate his 150th match for the Eels.
The contract extension is part of Ryles’ strategy to stabilize the squad after high-profile departures, including Clint Gutherson, who joined the Dragons on a three-year deal. New recruits like Isaiah Iongi, Joash Papalii, and Zac Lomax are set to bolster the team heading into 2025.
Lane’s re-signing reflects his value to the Eels as they look to build a competitive team under Ryles’ leadership, ensuring a mix of experience and fresh talent for the upcoming season.
