Chairman of Aberdeen Dave Cormack has reaffirmed that the team has not received any offers for star striker Bojan Miovski and that they will only take offers that are advantageous to all sides.
The North Macedonia international, who scored 26 goals in 53 games across all competitions, was a bright spot in the Reds’ otherwise challenging season. Numerous teams around the globe are interested in the 24-year-old, including Bologna of Serie A, who could provide the forward with Champions League play for the upcoming campaign.
Earlier this week, Miovski arrived in Portugal for the team’s preseason training camp alongside newly appointed Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin. Miovski, Cape Verdean sensation Duk, and Slovenian striker Ester Sokler are already among the offensive alternatives available to Swedish manager Thelin. However, he has expanded his possibilities by adding Nigerian forward Peter Ambrose from Hungarian team Ujpest.
Although Cormack states that Pittodrie bosses are not under any pressure to sell Miovski, he does add that, should he leave, they would be looking for “big things” from the Dons’ other front players. We haven’t received any bids for Bojan, he stated in an interview with The Press & Journal.
Aberdeen South’s Stephen Flynn keeps his seat, although he acknowledges the SNP “beat well.”
He’s a fantastic boy who adores Aberdeen. Our approach is that, everything else being equal, if the player and Aberdeen both receive the best offer, that is what we would do.
“Jimmy expects a lot from Ester and, of course, from Peter as well, but we don’t have to sell Bojan this summer. It would need to be precisely the appropriate amount.
The American businessman claims he consults with director of football Steven Gunn and Aberdeen CEO Alan Burrows over possible new hires, but he maintains that the manager in the dugout will always have the last word in transfers. “I’ve never signed a player for Aberdeen Football Club, so I’m not sure where all this started,” he continued.
I’ve had numerous requests for payment for players! Without exception, every manager I’ve worked with as a director, vice-chairman, or chairman, starting with Derek McInnes, has had the last say over every player.
“I usually speak with the manager twice a week. Usually before a game, which could be on Friday, we just have a quick “how’s the week gone?” conversation in which I offer encouragement and best wishes for the game that weekend. Afterwards, we might have a quick catch-up and chat, which is really just meant to be supportive.
Even with this model in place, the manager will ultimately have the last say when it comes to new players. The recruiting team, led by Steven Gunn, is responsible for identifying three, four, five, or six players who meet the criteria. The coach will then review the candidates and make the ultimate selection.
In addition to Ambrose, two other new arrivals at Cormack Park this summer are Irish defender Gavin Molloy from Shelbourne and goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov from St Johnstone, a Premiership opponent. Due to visa complications, Ambrose was unable to travel to the Algarve camp; but, according to Dons midfielder Leighton Clarkson, all three players have made a positive impression at their new club.
He said to RedTV, “Gavin is a lot more chilled and relaxed.” Though he’s a wonderfully kind guy, I believe he’s the most laid-back Irishman I have ever encountered.
“Then there’s Dimi, who really never stops talking! He is the first person you hear entering the training field as he wakes up, buzzing about the location.
Despite having distinct personalities, they are both excellent additions to the guys. Peter seems like a really hilarious guy as well; we’ll talk to him more when we return to Aberdeen.”
