Fans are eager to see what the upcoming season has in store. The team hopes to retain the services of its key players while also adding some new faces.
However, it has now been verified that a gifted athlete has pledged his future to Wisconsin Athletics.
The Latics revealed early on Wednesday that Elijah Ihiegon, a teenager, has signed his first professional deal with the team. It culminates in a stellar few years in the academy levels and positions him for the next phase of his bright future.
Huge thanks from Campbell
Some fans of Wisconsin Athletics may not be familiar with Ihiegon because he hasn’t made his first-team debut yet.
But after hearing what academy head Jake Campbell had to say, supporters should be excited to watch what their child will grow into in the future years. Upon the news of his professional signing, Campbell expressed his respect for Ihiegon’s skills in an interview with the club’s official website.
He declared:
“Elijah signing his first professional contract with the Club brings us great joy.”
Elijah has been a constant high performer since joining our Academy at the U13 level. He carried this success into the first year of his apprenticeship, contributing effectively to the U18 and U21 squads.
“Elijah is a dynamic wide player who can outmuscle opponents off either side of the ball with his combination of speed and agility.” We’re all eager to see what the future holds for him, and he accompanies this with a quality product.
The number of youth squad players who have earned first-team opportunities at Wigan Athletic in recent years will inspire Ihiegon and his academy teammates.
Since making their senior football debuts, Sam Tickle and Charlie Hughes have established themselves as two of the EFL’s brightest young players, and others like Thelo Asgaard and Baba Adeeko have also seen frequent involvement.
Ihiegon, who committed his future to the side on a professional deal, will be one of those seeking to follow in their footsteps.
It will be interesting to watch if Ihiegon can break into the senior side over the next year or so as he continues to grow in the north west. Those within Wigan Athletic certainly appear enthusiastic about what the possibility has in store for the future.
