Huddersfield Town are reportedly interested in signing Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez this summer.
This post is a part of the “Terrace Talk” series from Football League World, whereby our FLW Fan Pundits provide their personal thoughts on the newest breaking news, teams, players, managers, possible signings, and more.
Huddersfield Town, who were demoted from the Championship, are getting ready for life in League One.
The Terriers had a difficult season, and when Andre Breitenreiter took over in February, he had the burden of maintaining the team in the second division following the dismissals of both Neil Warnock and Darren Moore.
Town’s performance quickly deteriorated under Breinreiter’s leadership, and the German could not stop his team from being relegated as they ended the season six points from safety, finishing 23rd in the table.

Breitenreiter departed the team a few days after the season ended due to mutual dissatisfaction, and the Terriers have named Michael Duff, a former manager of Barnsley and Swansea City, to take over as manager.
Despite his lack of employment following his dismissal by Swansea in December following a disastrous spell in South Wales, Duff has a strong history in League One and managed Barnsley to the play-off final in his final season there.
Journalist Alan Nixon claims that Duff is already considering potential summer transfer targets. Town is reportedly interested in signing Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, whose contract at Turf Moor expires this summer, made 24 appearances across all competitions this season, recording one assist and two goals as the Clarets were demoted from the Premier League.
Rodriguez, 34, is drawing interest from other teams and Burnley has extended an offer to sign him, while Stoke City is also expected to compete for his services.
Commentator for Huddersfield Town responds to Jay Rodriguez connections
Huddersfield Town supporter Grahame Rayner of FLW reckons Rodriguez would be a great addition for the Terriers in League One, but he thinks Town may have competition from Championship teams for the striker.
“Jay Rodriguez is a really good player with pedigree,” Graeme said to FLW.
“If we’re only going to use him successfully for one season to get us out of League One, his age won’t be a big deal, and he could definitely function there.
I’m not sure if he would attend or not. I’m not sure if he would come on a one-year contract or not.
“I wouldn’t give him a two-year contract; perhaps a year with an option, but I don’t think his age will be a problem in League One.
“He has been in the Premier League with Burnley for four of the last five seasons, playing a lot of games, so it is obvious that he is capable. He featured in at least 20 games this season.
“I wouldn’t be against that; I know Stoke is our opponent, and I would have assumed he would be more inclined to go there. However, what does he want—a season of fighting in the Championship’s lower divisions, or a trip to League One and perhaps a championship?
“I wouldn’t be against it, as long as it’s not seen as any kind of long-term solution because that would be a bit ridiculous.”
