Ahadme in, Turton out: The dream start to Huddersfield Town’s summer transfer window

It is imperative that the West Yorkshire side address their goalscoring issues this summer

Huddersfield Town was relegated from the Championship to League One after a miserable 2023–24 season, therefore the Terriers will probably undergo some sort of rebuild during the summer transfer window.

West Yorkshire’s supporters will be hoping for an automatic promotion drive, but for a team that was in the Championship play-off final just two years ago, securing a League One play-off spot will undoubtedly be the minimum goal.

The Terriers must have a strong transfer window this summer in order to have a successful 2024–25 third tier campaign. However, in addition to adding new players, the club will probably need to sell some squad assets in order to make room for the players they will be adding as they prepare for their first third tier season since the 2011–12 campaign.

For the Terriers, this would be the ideal way to begin the transfer window:

The fact that centre defender Michael Helik scored nine goals in the second division and Delano Burgzorg, who was on loan from Mainz, scored seven goals, was the team’s leading scorer during the 2023–24 campaign indicates that the Terriers have goalscoring issues.

The West Yorkshire team must solve their goalscoring problems this summer if they hope to guarantee that a League One promotion race will be anticipated.

Gassan Ahadme, a forward for Ipswich Town, could be a good choice because, on his brief loan with Cambridge United—who ended just four points above the third division—he scored 11 goals in 29 games, including just 22 starts.

Ahadme’s contract at Portman Road expires in 2025, having signed a three-year deal in 2022. He is expected to become available again this summer, either on a permanent basis or on loan, following the Tractor Boys’ promotion to the Premier League.

With his sights set on winning the Championship again, Huddersfield, who want to fight at the top of the table, will probably give the 23-year-old more playing time than Cambridge did.

Town will be looking to sell certain players this summer in order to rebuild after being relegated from the Championship to League One.

The Terriers might want to trade for Ollie Turton this summer because the 31-year-old was limited to just three games in 2023–2024 by injuries.

According to BBC Sport, Turton had knee surgery not long after he recovered from a chronic ACL injury, which kept him sidelined for several months in January 2024.

The defender started each of the final two games of the season, but the Terriers should definitely be trying to transfer him this summer. He did not play again until April 13th, when he made a one-minute cameo against Bristol City.

Given Turton’s recent injury problems and the mere 21 Championship games he has made overall over the last two seasons, Town should be willing to let him go during this transfer window.
