Ally McCoist reacts to David Moyes update as West Ham United farewell mooted v Luton Town

When West Ham plays Luton Town at the London Stadium on Saturday, May 11, Ally McCoist has predicted a “fond farewell” for David Moyes.

The Scot will be leaving the Hammers when his contract expires at the end of the season, the club said on Monday, May 6. Julen Lopetegui will take over.

On the penultimate day of the season, Moyes’ team will play Luton. On the last day of the season, they will go to the Etihad Stadium to play Manchester City.

McCoist said live on talkSPORT on Wednesday, May 8, at 6:39 p.m., ahead of West Ham’s season-ending home game: “I really believe he will receive the kind of reception he deserves.”

It goes without saying that some West Ham supporters are in favor of change. However, I believe he will receive the warm farewell he so richly deserves.

David Moyes will be replaced by Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United.
It appears that Tim Steidten has already chosen a replacement for Moyes, a decision that has drawn harsh criticism from the media and ardent West Ham supporters.

This season, the Scot has also been under a lot of criticism. His defensive football style and some subpar performances have put increasing strain on the manager’s shoulders.

When the Irons play Luton on Saturday, Moyes will still have the full respect of the supporters despite the statements made by supporters during the season calling for his dismissal.

Their frustration seems to have lost its meaning, and they have one last chance to express their love and admiration for the manager who guided the team to its first European trophy in decades, during the final home game.

To say that many of the performances have fallen short would be an understatement on Moyes’ part. Losses to Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, and Chelsea in the past have resulted in scores of 5-0, 5-2, and 4-3.

These are merely the beginning of the season’s events, particularly in light of the eight-game losing streak at the beginning of 2024. Still, Moyes has to leave the London Stadium with his head held high and the cheers of his grateful supporters.
