Amazing’ – Paul Brown reacts to what he read about Everton accounts in last 24 hours

Paul Brown has been left amazed by the increased staffing at Everton despite their latest accounts making for bleak reading. With Everton’s 2022-23 accounts released on 31 March, losses almost doubled to £89.1million, with The Esk sharing his detailed findings.

It was found that staff in marketing, media and administration departments all increased at Goodison Park, with many being left far from impressed.

Reacting to that news on X, Brown could not believe it: “While it’s far from Everton’s biggest problem, this jumped out at me too as quite amazing under the circumstances. Incredibly, given the cost pressures on the club, staff numbers overall increased from 491 to 532.”

Sean Dyche looking annoyed.

Everton’s financial plight in the past few seasons has seen the club’s battle for Premier League survival in 2023-24 become even more difficult than most fans had expected, being met with a 10-point deduction for financial breaches in the 2021-22 financial year.

A reduction in that penalty to six points on February 26 has hardly been noticed in the table, with the Toffees failing to win a league game since mid-December having pulled away from the bottom three in the weeks after their initial punishment. With eight games left and potentially another points deduction in the post following the publication of these accounts, the Goodison Park faithful are in for a nervy rollercoaster ride which could see their team condemned to the second tier for the first time in over 70 years. The Toffees are set to learn their fate for that second charge within days, so let’s hope that nothing comes from that potential punishment.
