The former Sunderland man has enjoyed a glittering career at the top of the game
Jonny Evans, a former player for West Bromwich, Leicester City, and Sunderland, has collected his second FA Cup winners medal. The Northern Ireland international began this afternoon’s Manchester United match against Manchester City at Wembley on the bench. He has frequently teamed up with Sunderland defender Dan Ballard for the national team. The 36-year-old Jonny Evans is also the brother of Corry Evans, the Sunderland captain who was recently let go.
Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo gave the Red Devils a 2-0 lead in the first half. Later, despite a furious attack from their local rivals, they managed to win the match 2-1 thanks to a strike by Jermey Doku.
Erik ten Hag left another former Sunderland loanee, Amad Diallo, on the bench and replaced him with Evans in the second half to finish the match. Evans won the FA Cup for the first time with Manchester United and earned his second winners’ medal in the competition following his victory with Leicester City in 2021.
In addition to winning three Premier League championships, two EFL Cups, four Community Shields, a Champions League, and a FIFA Club World Cup, Evans caps out a stellar career with the 2024 FA Cup. With the victory at Wembley, Evans now has 13 major trophies.
Earlier in his career, the former West Brom player had two enjoyable loan experiences with Sunderland. The first occurred under Roy Keane in the 2006–07 season. After signing in January, Evans played 18 games and contributed to Sunderland’s promotion to the Premier League. The next season, Evans signed with Keane once more and helped the Black Cats avoid relegation.
