An injury update for Sunderland’s Eliezer Mayenda and Dan Ballard ahead of their match against Luton

DAN BALLARD and Eliezer Mayenda could both return to action with Sunderland over the course of the next week.

The Black Cats’ victory over Hull City yesterday propelled them back to the top of the Championship table. They will have a busy few days ahead of them, starting with a trip to Luton Town on Wednesday and a home match against Oxford United on Saturday. Ballard and Mayenda did not play in the victory over the weekend at MKM Stadium, but Regis Le Bris is hopeful that both players will be ready at some point during the next two games.

Ballard may have a difficult time getting back into the starting lineup considering how well Chris Mepham has adjusted to the center of the back four during his absence. Ballard suffered an ankle injury late in the team’s loss to Plymouth last month, keeping him out of the game.

Mayenda’s last game was in the victory against Middlesbrough last month; he was sidelined due to a muscle problem. Similar to Ballard, he will have to battle to get back into the starting lineup because Wilson Isidor has scored three goals in the previous four games. When questioned about the likelihood of players returning for the games against Oxford and Luton, Le Bris responded, “We will have to see with these two players (Mayenda and Ballard).” “They might return to play a role (in the upcoming two games), but we’ll have to wait and see how they’re doing. Before making a choice, we must wait and see.
