If Enzo Barrenechea signs with Aston Villa from Juventus, Dan Bardell has hinted that the preseason is crucial for him to create a role there. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Argentine has finished his medical and will be announced as a Villa player in the next days, as of June 27.
This move is a part of the agreement that will send Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior to Villa Park and Douglas Luiz to Juventus. Journalist Bardell from Sky Sports and talkSPORT has identified a pattern in Unai Emery’s summer business and offered predictions on the Argentine’s future. Bardell remarked in an exclusive interview with Villa News: “It’s good that he was able to experience first-team football last season.
Similarly to Luiz, he is more of a ball-playing midfielder. What is significant about him is that he is six foot one, it seems to me like Villa have noticed that they weren’t the most physically opposing of sides last season.
I’m not sure that even Villa will know where he fits in at the moment in the short term and pre-season will sort that out.
There will be some gaps in midfield at the start of the season without Luiz and Kamara so there is an opportunity for him to get in there for the start of the Premier League.
“It is an interesting signing and not one that has been typical of Aston Villa over the years. I’m looking forward to seeing him in action but I wouldn’t expect him to be immediately firing on all cylinders.“
Aston Villa set to sign Enzo Barrenechea
In a transfer saga that appears to have lasted weeks, the Villans look set to announce a swap deal for Luiz to join Juventus this summer.
Concerns about PSR, which had hindered many Premier League clubs prior to the June 30 deadline, nearly forced this deal through. Tim Iroegbunam was previously sold by Villa, but if a deal for the Brazilian star is completed, the summer’s finances seem secure. Even if Emery loses one of his best players, he might benefit from trading him for Barrenechea, Iling-Junior, and a fee.
Most Villa supporters are unaware of the Argentine, who played 39 games in all competitions while on loan at Frosinone the previous season [FotMob]. He is still a young player (he is 23) and will probably get better under Emery’s guidance in the upcoming campaigns.
Fans will be able to assess the midfield player for themselves once he joins the Villans prior to the preseason, but there is undoubtedly some promise there.
