Ipswich Town pulled off a remarkable late comeback once more on Monday night. They emerged 3-2 winners in their big promotion clash with Southampton to move top of the Championship table.

Star left-back Davis thrashed home a fantastic strike to open the scoring but goals from Che Adams and Adam Armstrong had the Saints 2-1 up within 10 minutes of the opener.

It took the Tractor Boys until the 68th-minute to equalise as Nathan Broadhead turned home in sharp fashion. It set up another grandstand finish at Portman Road, and loan man Jeremy Sarmiento would poke home a winner with 97 minutes on the clock after a cut-back from creative as Davis.

The win means Ipswich Town are a point clear of Leeds United at the top. Leicester City are two points back in 3rd, but they boast a game in hand.

Davis’ contributions were key once more. A goal and an assist takes him to a stunning 21 goal contributions in 38 games across all competitions (two goals, 19 assists). He’s made the headlines on plenty of occasions and once more, he was in the limelight as journalist Alex Jones lauded his display.

The East Anglian Daily Times reporter handed him a 9/10 for his performance. Jones tipped him to go right to the top of the game after another ‘astonishing’ outing.

Davis emerged as a standout player in League One and many were excited to see just what he could do for Ipswich Town in the Championship. However, few would have expected him to reach such a level.

The 24-year-old is a shoe-in for the team of the season having emerged as one of the most creative players in the league, from left-back no less.

Be it with the Tractor Boys or elsewhere, Davis is a player who needs to be on the up next season. Clubs will be determined to recruit a player of his creative output and it could be that promotion is needed for Ipswich Town to retain his services.

The former Leeds United man just keeps finding another level when his team needs him, and it will be key in the bid to complete a remarkable second consecutive promotion.
