Barnsley man threaten to terminate his contract with the club due to…..

According to the Mariners’ official club website, Barnsley custodian Jackson Smith has extended his loan at Grimsby Town by a further seven days.

In early October, Barnsley allowed the custodian to join the League Two team on an emergency basis. Since then, he has played for the team against Lincoln City in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, Gillingham, Doncaster Rovers and Salford City.

Smith, 23, will now play once more for David Artell’s team on Saturday when they play Walsall at home. They are only behind Bradford City on goal differential and now sit in eighth position in the standings.

Grimsby Town has announced in this most recent update on the stopper’s condition that he will remain at Blundell Park for an additional seven days. He was given the number 31 shirt when he was brought in after Jake Eastwood was hurt.

Smith was only brought on by Barnsley this past summer to strengthen their goalkeeping staff.

He signed a four-year contract with the Yorkshire team, with an additional 12-month option available to the club.

“I’m so excited, honestly, it’s the only way I can put it into words,” he remarked after joining the Tykes. There is nothing except enthusiasm when a club this magnitude shows interest in you. I am eager to go out there, meet people, and demonstrate my values.

“Jackson is an exciting young custodian, and we are very happy to welcome him to Oakwell,” said Mladen Sormaz, their sporting director. He can control his box and play with his feet in addition to being a good shot-stopper. Despite interest from other clubs, we are thrilled to have him on board, and we can’t wait for him to join us for preseason.

Smith climbed the ranks at Wolves and advanced through the Midlands team’s academy. He later made one appearance for the Premier League team.

When he was younger, Kettering Town and Walsall came knocking for him, and he briefly played for them away from Molineux to get experience.

What now?

This Saturday, Smith will play for Grimsby Town against his old team, Walsall, before his loan is set to expire once more.

On Saturday, Barnsley will travel to play Blackpool.
