The Tykes fell at Wembley to Sheffield Wednesday despite making it to the final the previous year. Under whoever becomes their next manager, the Yorkshire team will be looking to mount another bid for promotion the following season.
Despite Collins’ ranking in the top six at the time, they severed their relations with him in late April. Following that, Martin Devaney was put as interim manager and managed to get them beyond the finish line and into the play-offs, where they ultimately lost to the Trotters.
Now that they must decide who to bring in next, Barnsley’s summer at Oakwell is likely to be one of change. Take a peek at the most recent news…
Not able to see Michael Duff
Journalist Alan Nixon claims on his Patreon website that the Tykes had considered bringing back Michael Duff. However, after Huddersfield Town was relegated from the Championship, the former player for Swansea City and Cheltenham Town has recently joined the team.
Martin Devaney’s position
Devaney is not interested in returning to the caretaker position as a full-time manager. He is not a candidate, according to the Barnsley Chronicle, and will return to his prior position as coach.
Dominik Thalhammer’s move was unsuccessful
Dominik Thalhammer, an Austrian manager with experience at LASK Linz, Cercle Brugge, and KV Oostende, was the person Barnsley were hoping to turn to. But according to Nixon on his Pandora, he was unable to obtain a work permit, therefore his plan to move forward was derailed.
As reported by the Yorkshire Post, he has now expressed his unhappiness at losing out on a move to England and stated: “I can confirm I will not join Barnsley FC because of the (permit) disaster.”It would have been a perfect fit for me. It’s obviously quite disappointing. It’s not something I can alter. The exception panel, they claimed, would have been a formality. It’s randomness to me.
the most recent Mike Williamson
Nixon on X claims that the Tykes may now “explore” a move for Mike Williamson of the MK Dons. Whether he would be interested in the move is still up in the air.
In the two-leg play-off match, Crawley Town humiliated his team 8-1. They now have another year in the fourth division ahead of them.
