Barnsley move closer to manager appointment after Williamson link

It appears that the Tykes will select Daniel Stendel to return to Oakwell for a second stint.

As they prepare to name Daniel Stendel, Barnsley seems to have lost interest in MK Dons manager Mike Williamson.

The Tykes fired Neill Collins over a month ago before their League One play-off campaign against Bolton Wanderers. The Tykes also loaned out Conor Grant to the Dons during the second half of the season.

However, work visa complications prevented the Yorkshire team from landing Austrian target Dominik Thalhammer, so they had to go elsewhere, and Williamson was supposedly on the list.

Although they lost to the Trotters and will play in League One the following season, Barnsley has been led by former Dons loanee Martin Devaney.

After leading Oakwell to promotion to the Championship in 2018–19, German manager Stendel is likely to return to the club for a second stint. However, he was fired early in the following season.

Stendel left Barnsley and went on to play for Hearts and Nancy. He then went back to Hannover 96 to manage the reserve team, where he finished his playing career. However, it now appears that Stendel may return to Yorkshire.
