Barnsley set for potential boost ahead of Blackpool trip this weekend

After the international break, the entire League One calendar resumes this weekend, with Blackpool hosting Barnsley at Bloomfield Road.

The Seasiders will be hoping to continue on the strong performance they have already seen in Steve Bruce’s brief tenure as manager of the Fylde Coast and recover from their 2-0 loss to Mansfield Town earlier this month.

After Adam Phillips missed their last two games, Barnsley will be hoping for an injury boost before Saturday’s match.

With five goals in eight League One games thus far this season, the midfielder has been crucial for the Tykes.

It was anticipated that, barring any setbacks in the build-up, the 26-year-old would be healthy enough to play against Blackpool following a toe issue before to the international break.

Max Watters has missed the Reds’ last five games, and Josh Benson may not play for Darrell Clarke’s team after being sidelined with a tight hamstring in his most recent appearance.

After playing twice for England U20s before the weekend, Dom Ballard will make his Seasiders comeback after suffering a shoulder injury.

After taking a hit to the ribs against Lincoln City earlier this month, Hayden Coulson should also be able to return.

Both Ollie Norburn and Elkan Baggott were anticipated to go back on the pitch before the beginning of the international season, so they should be close to making a comeback in the coming weeks.
