QPR remain in talks with Asmir Begovic over a new deal, but Bournemouth are keen on the keeper as a backup.
After agreeing to a one-year deal with the R’s in the summer of last year, the 36-year-old played 45 games for the Londoners this season as they fought to stay in the Championship.

Even though he didn’t always persuade, Marti Cifuentes had faith in the former Everton player, and in the end, it paid off as QPR prevailed. Their success was based primarily on their defence, and Begovic’s guidance in the locker room was helpful.
Begovic’s contract is expiring, therefore his future is uncertain. Rumour has it that Celtic was previously interested in the seasoned goalkeeper.
Asmir Begovic’s most recent transfer
However, in a recent development, journalist Alan Nixon has disclosed that Bournemouth is eager to have the player return to the Vitality Stadium, as Andoni Iraola looks to replace the injured custodian.
That doesn’t mean Begovic’s QPR career is over though, as the update also explains that he remains in talks with the R’s over a new deal.
Crucially, it’s thought that the Bosnian would need to accept a pay-cut to remain in the capital.
This is a decision that is entirely on Begovic, as he is in a situation where he controls his future, and he obviously needs to make a call in the coming weeks.
The appeal of Bournemouth is understandable as they’re certain to offer a bigger salary, and it’s a chance to work with Premier League players on a daily basis. Meanwhile, the benefit of QPR is that they are likely to be able to offer first-team football.
So, it will be interesting to see how this plays out, and Begovic will understandably take his time before making such a decision.
QPR’s summer plans
It’s an exciting time to be a QPR fan due to the remarkable job that Cifuentes has done since his arrival, and he had the team playing excellent football during the final weeks of the season as they deservedly stopped up.
Now, it’s about supporting him in the summer, and he will surely have grand ambitions as he attempts to assemble a club that, despite the fact that it will take time, can contend for a play-off spot.
He will undoubtedly be pressuring Begovic to make a decision as soon as possible because they will need to find a replacement keeper if he does leave. Determining who will be the best player next season is undoubtedly a top priority.
However, the team will be aware that he may decide to move on, so they will undoubtedly have suitable candidates in queue.
Even though they will praise Begovic’s performances this season, some fans will believe the team should be thinking ahead. As a result, there won’t be too much disappointment if Begovic does move on.
Given his background and the smaller budget than other teams in the league, Cifuentes may have to wrangle things, but QPR’s supporters will undoubtedly have complete faith in him. It will be interesting to watch if he considers the Scandinavian market.
