UPDATE: Why Willie Miller admits BBC’s Celtic stats ‘can’t be trusted’ after…

At Hampden on Saturday, Celtic defeated Aberdeen in the League Cup semi-final with nearly complete dominance.

Celtic, led by Brendan Rodgers, put on one of their greatest performances of the season in their 6-0 triumph over Aberdeen.

In what was Aberdeen’s biggest game of the season, the Hoops dominated the majority of the ninety minutes at Hampden, leaving Willie Miller furious about Aberdeen’s surrender to Celtic.

Miller was furious over more than just the Dons’ performance, though, as he questioned the Celtic first-half statistics while working for the BBC.

Celtic possession statistics “can’t be trusted,” hence Aberdeen is “no threat.”

The Aberdeen great acknowledged that he was taken aback by the first-half possession statistics when he was analysing the results of his former team’s loss to Celtic.

Miller said to BBC Sportsound, “Aberdeen also posed no threat.” Celtic had complete possession and dominated the game. Who provided the 67% possession statistics?

In the first half, Celtic’s chances were about 90%. Therefore, I’m not sure if the person doing the data can be relied upon. My eyes certainly didn’t agree with them.

Before the first goal, Celtic dominated the first half of the match, and it appeared Aberdeen could hold them at bay.

Willie Miller identifies four Celtic players who Aberdeen considered a “threat.”

All of the Celtic players who played at Hampden were excellent against Aberdeen, but Miller singled out four members of Brendan Rodgers’ squad, which seriously hurt the Pittodrie club.

But when Celtic got back to their best, Miller added, “Maeda was doing what he could, Kuhn was making those hard runs forward, and Kyogo was just in the box being a threat.”Daizen Maeda of Celtic celebrates scoring his team's third goal during the Premier Sports Cup Semi-Final match between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampd...

“McGregor is just the conductor, keeping the entire midfield under control and preventing anyone from coming close to him. It also doesn’t help that Nielsen loses the ball away on a few key occasions.
He gives the ball away on one play, dives into a tackle in the next, and then runs at the two centre backs, you know.
Aberdeen has a lot to learn. So far, everything has gone well; this is a setback.Given the game’s BBC match statistics, it’s easy to see Miller’s point of view:
Possession 53% Celtic

The possession stats don’t seem to do Celtic’s dominating performance justice but the fans and Rodgers won’t care.

All they will care about is that Celtic have the chance to win the League Cup against Rangers and pile more misery onto the Ibrox club this season.
