VFL player Sam Davidson was awarded the 2024 Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal, recognizing him as the league’s most promising young talent at the VFL and VFLW Awards night.

VFL Tiger  Sam Davidson claimed the prestigious 2024 Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal, awarded to the league’s most promising young player at the VFL and VFLW Awards night.

Davidson had a stellar debut season for Richmond’s VFL side, where he became the first Tiger to win this medal. He also earned a spot in the 40-man Team of the Year squad alongside fellow first-year player Lachlan Wilson.

The 21-year-old forward/winger impressed with his stats, averaging  14 disposals, 3 marks, and 3 tackles across 17 games, and finishing as the team’s leading goalkicker with  26 goals . Highlights of his season included standout performances against Port Melbourne in Round 11 (17 disposals, 4 goals) and Northern Bullants in Round 15 (19 disposals, 6 goals), earning him coaches’ MVP votes.

Before his VFL success, Davidson played for Maffra in the Gippsland Football League. His strong performances have earned him an invitation to the  AFL’s State Draft Combine in October 2024, showcasing his potential for the next level.
