Birmingham City have completed the signing of Ryan Allsop from Hull City.

Allsop, aged 32, is the first signing for Blues in this summer’s transfer window under new manager Chris Davies. A native of Birmingham, Allsop has agreed to a three-year contract at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

The club had been seeking a goalkeeper known for their proficiency with the ball, and Allsop fits the bill with his recognized ability in possession. Hull City deemed him surplus to requirements following the departure of manager Liam Rosenior, who brought Allsop in from Cardiff City last summer, prompting Blues to act.

A Birmingham native from a family of Blues supporters, Allsop returns to the city after 13 years since departing West Bromwich Albion. Joining Birmingham marks the 16th club in his career, spanning from Birmingham to Humberside, including a brief stint with Icelandic side Hottur.

Allsop spent the last three seasons in the Championship with Derby County, Cardiff City, and Hull City, appearing in 111 out of 138 possible matches. Previously, he enjoyed a successful three-year tenure at Wycombe Wanderers, culminating in promotion to the Championship via the League One play-offs in 2020.

During his five-year tenure at Bournemouth, Allsop made two appearances in the Premier League, supplemented by multiple loan spells across various levels of the English Football League (EFL).
