Birmingham City have reportedly made a £775,000 bid for Charlton striker Alfie May, outdoing Huddersfield Town’s previous offer for the League One’s top scorer last season. The Addicks have accepted Birmingham’s bid, allowing negotiations to commence between May and the club.
Charlton had initially welcomed Huddersfield’s bid, but Birmingham’s late offer has positioned them favorably as they aim to return to the Championship under new manager Chris Davies. May, who has one year remaining on his contract with Charlton, has been prolific in League One, scoring 66 goals over the past three seasons, including 23 goals last season which made him the league’s top scorer.
Birmingham, who struggled in the Championship last season, are keen to bolster their attacking prowess, with May potentially becoming their second signing of the transfer window following goalkeeper Ryan Allsop.
