Jude Bellingham played the full 90 minutes for Real Madrid in their 4-0 home defeat to Barcelona on Saturday evening but didn’t have an impact, with Marca blaming Carlo Ancelotti for failing to play him in his favoured position
Following Real Madrid’s 4-0 thumping by Barcelona on Saturday, Jude Bellingham was criticised by the Spanish media, who referred to the England player as “a shadow of his former self” at the Bernabeu.
Despite being one of Madrid’s most valuable players, Bellingham is not having the same successful season as he was under Carlo Ancelotti last season. In seven La Liga matches so far, he has failed to score and only provided one assist.
Shearer explains in detail why Aston Villa was unable to defeat Bournemouth and earn all three points.
Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski, who scored a brace, all scored goals during a terrible night for the home team in front of their own supporters, but the midfielder was unable to motivate Madrid as they were crushed by their rivals.
Marca blamed Carlo Ancelotti for not using the 21-year-old former Birmingham City player in his preferred position behind the striker, despite the fact that he played the entire ninety minutes for Madrid without making an impact.
Ancelotti’s poor handling of Bellingham was described as a “joke in bad taste” by Marca reporter Juan Ignacio Garcia-Ochoa. The Italian has used Bellingham on the right wing on occasion this season.
“Bellingham is a shadow of the player who burst onto the scene last season at the Bernabeu,” he stated. Furthermore, the way he is being handled is the issue, not him.
“He plays at a position that is not his every day, and despite his best efforts, the youngster does not shine. Ancelotti needs to fix the joke of playing near the right wing and as a full-back for a lot of minutes straight away.
“The fact that a player who last year scored 20 goals has not scored any when we are almost in November is something that deserves serious analysis.” Goal scorer Yamal was referred to as “the chosen one” by Marca, who were far more appreciative of him.
After scoring 23 goals in 42 games across all competitions and playing a key role in midfield as the team won La Liga and the Champions League, Bellingham was praised as Madrid’s hero and showered with love from Spanish media sources last season.
The former Borussia Dortmund player, who cost almost £100 million to join Real Madrid last summer, maintained that form in Euro 2024 with England, scoring twice and dishing out two assists to help the Three Lions advance to the competition’s final before suffering a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Spain.
In the lead-up to the match against Barcelona, Ancelotti stated that he was pleased with Bellingham’s development despite his inconsistent play this season and that he didn’t mind the player’s lack of goals.
Although he has experienced issues with his shoulder and ankle, he is doing extremely well and making improvement. He is making a contribution with his work, which is crucial for us.
“We lost a key striker like Benzema last season, therefore it was imperative that he scored goals. This year, we don’t have that issue because we have a player capable of scoring forty-five goals.”
