Blackpool face potential delay in Jordan Rhodes decision following comments from Huddersfield Town manager

Following Jordan Rhodes’ productive loan stint at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool will be trying to sign the striker long-term this summer.

After joining from Huddersfield Town, the 34-year-old scored 15 goals in the first half of the season. However, injury kept him from playing beyond four games in January.

Both Rhodes and Seasiders manager Neil Critchley have stated that they would like to see their players back on the Fylde Coast in the upcoming season.

The forward, who formerly played for Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers, and Middlesbrough, is out of contract at John Smith’s Stadium this summer. He rejoined the Terriers in 2021 after a fruitful comeback to the West Yorkshire team.

The career trajectory of the former midfielder for Blackpool, Stoke City, and Tottenham Hotspur is…

Huddersfield’s official Championship relegation was confirmed over the weekend when they finished 23rd, behind Birmingham City and Rotherham United.

In the next weeks, decisions on their out-of-contract players will be made; however, there may be a delay because of the unpredictability surrounding manager Andre Breitenreiter’s future.

The German, who has coached teams like Schalke and Hoffenheim in the past, signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Terriers in February, but he is currently considering his summertime options.

He stated, “I don’t want to speak too much about our conversations,” as quoted by the Yorkshire Post. We do talk, you can be sure of that, but perhaps now is not the appropriate moment to share these details.

“I usually manage football in the top division, so I signed with Huddersfield because I liked the club’s vision.” Normally, I wouldn’t coach a squad in the third league.

“Yes, I might be partially at fault, but not for many of the issues we discussed last week, and I was taken aback by what I went through when I signed. However, as it is now the past, you must look forward and find the right resources to accomplish the aim because, as much as I value the Huddersfield supporters, they are the reason I am here.

“I’ve never seen my person handled with such dignity. You usually lose all friends when you’re demoted, but I think they genuinely value my candour and open communication approach, as well as my track record of success with other teams, and they believe.

“So, even though I would never ordinarily enter the third league, there is another reason I’m considering it. But before I can make a choice, I need to have some time, have some conversations, and gather knowledge. However, this will take some time.
