Boss reveals factors behind Portsmouth departure for former Arsenal, Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle man

The custodian will look for a new home “at the top end of League One” next season, according to the Blues boss.

As their contracts expire this summer, Macey was one of the ten names informed that their contracts will not be extended.

After spending two years at Kenilworth Road in the Premier League, the 29-year-old was signed in the January transfer window.

It provided Pompey with some reliable backup after Ryan Schofield had performed poorly in his appearances after joining in the summer.

Macey made 21 appearances in the second part of the 2022–2023 season, but he was never asked to make more because Will Norris was a constant presence in the league and was performing well.

However, his performance during that period demonstrated the former Arsenal player’s ability, and before the Norris deal was finalised, there was a clamour for his permanent signing.

Mousinho explained Pompey’s reasoning for the Macey choice, and he can definitely be a force to be reckoned with if he wants to push for promotion to the Championship the next season.

“With Matt, both parties are pretty happy with the decision,” he stated.

Matt, on the other hand, is someone who I believe would have declined our offer to be our backup custodian.

He want to be the best someplace, and I firmly believe he is capable of doing so.

“We may be a little biassed, but we believe he is capable of competing at the highest level in League One.” He’s going to purchase a football team for himself.

He gave us consistency during the last part of the season when he played. Then, we were aware that Will had given us a choice at the end of the year, should something happen to him.

Thus, we’ll try our hardest to guarantee Matt plays football on a regular basis the next season. Obtaining it is really crucial to him because he hasn’t had it in a long.
