Breaking down the Bears 2024 schedule

Breaking down the Bears 2024 schedule

With many significant offseason additions with rookie quarterback and first overall pick Caleb Williams leading the way, the Bears have emerged as a popular choice to make the playoffs in 2024.

Let’s dissect the schedule for 2024.

Game 1: Tennessee Titans against.

The Tennessee Titans, who were 6-11 in the previous year and have no viable quarterback option in 2024, will be the team the Bears take on in their home opener. Brian Callahan has taken over as head coach. The Bears will be the underdog in this game, and it’s a fantastic chance to start the Williams era off correctly.

Week2: away to the Houston Texans

The Bears will travel to Houston to play the Texans, who are expected to be the favourite in the AFC South and maybe a dark horse in the AFC, after their game against Tennessee at home. This game is scheduled for “Sunday Night Football,” and the quarterback competition between Williams and C.J. Stroud will be the centre of attention. Bears will have a difficult test in Week 2.

#3: away to the Indianapolis Colts

There will be a third straight game versus an AFC South opponent in Week 3. The Colts, who had a season when they just missed the playoffs, will have promising young quarterback Anthony Richardson back from injury. The defensive front in Chicago will face a tough task from his ability to make plays with his legs.

Matchup: Week 4: Los Angeles Rams

The Bears welcome the Rams, who finished 10-7 and qualified for the playoffs in 2023, to town for their first conference matchup. For the first time since being traded from Detroit in 2021, former rival quarterback Matthew Stafford will visit Chicago again. Here, a tight, competitive contest is anticipated.

Game 5: Carolina Panthers vs.

For the second year in a row, Soldier Field will host the Bears and Panthers. Carolina didn’t make much improvements in the draft or free agency after finishing 2-15 in the previous campaign. With a trip over the pond coming up in Week 6, this is an excellent chance for the Bears to win at home.

Week 6: London at. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Bears’ last trip to London ended in a depressing defeat to an unimpressive Oakland Raiders team in 2019. With a significant time shift ahead of them, head coach Matt Eberflus and staff will need to prepare well.

Week 7: Goodbye

Week 8: at Commanders in Washington

This would have been considered one of the weakest matches of Week 8 prior to the draft. Now that Williams and Jayden Daniels, the second overall pick, are going to square off, a lot of interesting plotlines might develop here. Expect a large number of Bears supporters in attendance despite the game being held in Washington, D.C.

During Week 9, the Arizona Cardinals

Despite a significant talent difference versus their NFC West rivals, head coach Jonathan Gannon will always have his team playing competitive football. The Cardinals finished 4-13 in the previous season. In any case, it could be entertaining to see Williams, Kyler Murray, and the talented wideouts D.J. Moore and Marvin Harrison Jr. square off.

New England Patriots in Week 10

When the Patriots visited the Windy City in the past, Rob Gronkowski, Tom Brady, and Bill Belichick were still destroying rival defences their route to winning another Super Bowl. Now that those players have left, New England faces numerous uncertainties heading into the season and has a new head coach in Jerod Mayo. The Bears need to win games like these if they hope to be regarded as a postseason contender.

Green Bay Packers in Week 11

In a strange twist of fate, the Bears’ opening divisional match of the season will take place against their venerable opponents. Chicago was overwhelmed in both of their meetings with Green Bay last season and hasn’t defeated them since 2018. A win will help both clubs tremendously, and both should be focused on the postseason. This rivalry may resume competition if Williams can defeat the Packers in his first start. Six of the Bears’ next eight games will come against divisional opponents, starting with this matchup.

Game 12: Minnesota Vikings vs.

When Minnesota visits in Week 12, the scene will be a little bit different. After trading for former Michigan quarterback Kirk Cousins in the off-season, the Falcons selected former Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy with the tenth overall choice in the draft. The Vikings still have standout wide receiver Justin Jefferson for another season, despite some of the new arrivals. Although this game is supposed to take place in the afternoon, if both teams are competitive, I could see it moving up to prime time.

At the Detroit Lions in Week 13

Thanksgiving will see Chicago and Detroit face off once more in what could be an amazing clash between these two storied rivals. The Lions, who finished just short of the Super Bowl the previous year, are hoping to win the division again this year. With so much firepower on both sides, football fans should be in for a fantastic feast.

At the San Francisco 49ers in Week 14

After playing four straight divisional games, the Bears will travel to play the 49ers, the reigning NFC champions, who are hoping to overcome their post-Super Bowl hump. For Chicago, this will be the hardest test of the season, and I don’t envision any circumstances in which they win.

At the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15

The Bears and Vikings play their final game of the season on “Monday Night Football.” As the season approaches its conclusion, a lot of the same possible themes may still be explored because it will just be three weeks since their last encounter. This is a classic “MNF” duel.

Versus. Detroit Lions in Week 16

In Week 16, Detroit will travel to Chicago in the hopes of improving on their 28-13 Bears victory from their previous visit. Chicago has the upper hand in this situation if the weather prediction involves snow and/or high winds. For both teams, this game might be essential to win in order to advance to the postseason and earn a primetime berth.

Game 17: Seattle Seahawks against.

The Seahawks, who almost missed the playoffs in 2023, will play in both the home finale and the final non-divisional game of this span. A fun game at Soldier Field in the late season.

At the Green Bay Packers in Week 18

Once again, it’s the season’s last week between the Packers and Bears. When the two teams faced off in Week 18 of the previous season, Green Bay emerged victorious 17-9, sealing an unlikely trip to the postseason. Given that the game is being played in northern Wisconsin, snow on the ground and in the air is almost a given. This has all the makings of an instant classic if Williams and the Bears perform to the best of their abilities this season.
