The 46-year-old Duff played for both Burnley and Chelsea Town before joining the latter as a manager. After that, he managed Barnsley and, more recently, Swansea City. He is eager for his next assignment at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Before Sheffield defeated the Tykes at Wembley on Wednesday, he led the team to the third-tier play-off final the previous season. Three players that he should try to entice away from Oakwell this summer to enhance his newly acquired squad are listed below.

Cole Devante

He has not signed an extension and his contract expires at the end of the following month, so as things stand, he will be a free agent. The striker has scored 34 goals in the last two seasons at the third division, where he has demonstrated his ability to score goals.

If Huddersfield Town were to offer the Manchester City academy graduate a free move, it would be worth a try. He was at his peak when Duff got him during his previous year in South Yorkshire.

Herb Kane

With his contract expiring in a few weeks, the midfield player’s future with the Tykes is up in the air. According to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon, he has been associated with Championship new boys Derby County since their promotion under former Rotherham United management Paul Warne.

Kane, 25, left Liverpool in 2020 to join his current team, having previously played on loan at Hull City and Doncaster Rovers. Since then, he has played in 123 games across all competitions and scored 14 goals, ten of which came during the previous season.

Williams Jordan

Not to mention, assuming nothing changes with his circumstances, defender Williams is also scheduled to become available this summer. Duff is familiar with the full-back, who has been a reliable player for Barnsley in recent years.

Before leaving Huddersfield Town in 2018, he played once for the first team after rising through the academy levels. The former England junior international would be a wise addition because he already has a thorough understanding of the Terriers.
