Breaking News: 43-year-old on Burnley FC radar as potential Vincent Kompany replacement

The ex-Bournemouth and Fulham boss Scott Parker has been listed as a potential candidate to take over at Turf Moor.

According to Alan Nixon via Patreon, Scott Parker, the former manager of Fulham and Bournemouth, is among Burnley’s possible choices to succeed Vincent Kompany.

The 43-year-old was last seen in the dugout for Club Brugge, a Belgian team, but he was only in command for 12 games when he left in March 2023.

The former hard-tackling midfielder may be a dark horse to take over at Turf Moor after experiencing several promotions from the Championship.

Journalist Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, has disclosed that Parker is on Burnley’s wanted list because The Clarets feel that his English football playing and managerial background meets their requirements.

According to Nixon’s report, Parker has surfaced as a “strong and leading candidate” as the team starts going through their shortlist in light of Kompany’s expected departure to Bayern Munich, which has not yet been confirmed but should happen shortly.

According to reports, Burnley’s American owners are drawn to the promotions he was able to secure with Fulham and Bournemouth, respectively, as they hope for a quick return to the Championship.

It is also rumoured that Burnley’s ownership group, headed by chairman Alan Pace, is interested in hiring football players with a well-known brand.

As Kompany prepares to join Bayern Munich, chairman Alan Pace is making a bold attempt to appoint a successor.

The Clarets are also considering former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper for the manager position, in addition to former Chelsea, Everton and Derby County manager Frank Lampard.

According to Nixon, Parker is eager to return to management after spending more than a year away from the game. Despite his dismal tenure in Belgium, this isn’t seen to be a setback to his chances of getting appointed.

Scott Parker would be a fascinating gamble for Burnley

Depending on your point of view, taking a year off from management might have both benefits and drawbacks.

It might have given him the opportunity to consider his accomplishments and shortcomings. However, it may also raise questions about how aware of the status of second-tier football he is at the moment.

Parker has demonstrated his managerial prowess at the Championship level, as seen by his two promotions with two different clubs.

With just nine victories in 52 top-flight games, he hasn’t quite established himself as one of the Premier League’s elite managers.

Should Parker be named Burnley’s next manager, he will bring a possession-based football philosophy, which has worked incredibly well for him in the lower leagues.

In fact, his play-off-winning Fulham team finished the 2019–2020 campaign with an average possession percentage of 61.4%, second only to Leeds United.

While his Bournemouth team, which won automatic promotion, finished the 2021–2022 season with the third-highest average in the league at 57%.

Parker may be a perfect fit because Kompany’s championship-winning Championship team had the highest average possession percentage in the division at the end of the 2022–2023 season—64.7%.

Parker could have all the necessary resources to lead Burnley back to the Premier League, but when they do, will they have a manager who can’t keep the team playing in the top division at Turf Moor?
