Breaking News: 6 Huddersfield Town players likely to never play for the club again

Here we have looked at six Huddersfield Town players likely never to play for the club again.

Huddersfield Town will play in League One next season, following a difficult Championship season.

The Terriers began the season relatively well under Neil Warnock, but his departure appeared to have a significant influence on the team, as Darren Moore arrived and was unable to improve things significantly.

He was then replaced by Andre Breitenreiter, who signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, but the German could not lift Huddersfield out of the relegation zone.

The Terriers will return to the English third tier for the first time since the 2011/12 season, and as with any relegated team, there will be a lot of squad dissection, with players being moved on either by the club’s choice or because they are too good for League One and will be picked up by Championship teams.

This article examines six Huddersfield players who are unlikely to return to the club.

Matty Pearson

Matty Pearson has been on the Huddersfield Town roster since the summer of 2021.

The centre-back arrived on a free transfer from Luton Town, and his influence with the Hatters carried over to the Terriers.

Pearson was a member of Huddersfield’s defence during his debut season, which helped the team reach the Championship play-offs.

Last season, the defender had a few injury issues of his own, but when he was well and available, he was a key member of the defence once more.

Pearson not only contributed defensively, but also scored five goals to assist the club avoid relegation. However, given the club’s relegation and his performance in the Championship, Pearson may be someone other second-tier clubs consider to improve their defence options.

Yuta Nakayama

Yuta Nakayama joined Huddersfield during the 2022 summer transfer window on a free transfer after leaving PEC Zwolle.

This was the defender’s first move to England, and his debut season was slow and disappointing.

Nakayama, a centre-back by trade but capable of playing in other positions, appeared in only 14 Championship games last season.

However, his value to the squad has grown as he appears in more games throughout the 2023/24 season.

However, he has not been a regular in the side, and with his contract ending at the end of June, he may never play for the club again, as the Terriers may choose not to renew it.

Brahima Diarra

Brahima Diarra

Brahima Diarra has been with Huddersfield for several years, joining the club’s academy in 2019.

The midfielder progressed from the under-17s and under-19s to the B team, then the first team.

Diarra’s breakthrough season came in 2022/23, and despite not scoring in 20 games, he began to attract the interest of other Championship teams.

That noise has not subsided, since Diarra has continued to play this season, and with his contract scheduled to expire at the end of June, he may soon leave the Terriers.

West Brom, Hull City, and Leicester City are reportedly interested in the midfielder. Given the club’s current circumstances, Diarra may consider moving on as these teams’ interest grows.

Jack Rudoni

Huddersfield’s relegation to League One could result in the loss of some significant players, the most obvious of which being Jack Rudoni.

Rudoni has only been with the Terriers for two seasons, but he has made a significant effect since being promoted from League Two to the Championship.

Last season, the 22-year-old appeared in all league games, scoring two goals and contributing five assists.

However, in the 2023/24 season, when Huddersfield has struggled, Rudoni has pushed his game to a new level, which may mean that teams look to take a chance on him and sign him away from the Terriers.

Rudoni is still under contract with the club until 2026, but if a club makes a good offer, Huddersfield may have no choice but to let him go.

Josh Koroma

Josh Koroma is still under contract with Huddersfield until next summer, but given that it will be his final year and that he has performed quite well this season, the Yorkshire club may try to cash in on Koroma while they can.

The 25-year-old signed a new deal last summer, but it’s unlikely that Koroma wants to stay and play in the third division.

The winger has struggled at times with the Terriers, since he has not been as productive in front of goal as predicted, but he has done well this season, ranking among the club’s best scorers.

Koroma may not be in as high demand as some of the other players, but he might be considered by teams moving up from League One or teams at the bottom of the Championship this season.

Sorba Thomas

Sorba Thomas is undoubtedly the player most Huddersfield fans expect to depart the club immediately.

The 25-year-old was a stunning purchase from Boreham Wood, and he has once again demonstrated his ability this season.

The winger has been in phenomenal form on the creative side of the game, and despite being under contract with the club until 2026, he might be transferred, since he will certainly bring in some money for the club.

Thomas was a standout for Huddersfield and helped them reach the play-offs in previous seasons. However, he was loaned to Blackburn Rovers last season. He returned and once again shown why he should have been kept at the club by Warnock last season.

Thomas is unlikely to want to stay in League One next season, thus his exit is expected, and it would provide the club with significant revenue.
