BREAKING NEWS: As Toronto Blue Jay Star Returns…

This season, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly might find himself managing a big league bench once again. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Mattingly—currently the bench coach for the Toronto Blue Jays—could take over the manager position.

Nightengale stated in a Sunday post, “The Toronto Blue Jays are once again one of baseball’s most underachieving teams, languishing in last place, with manager John Schneider on the hot seat.” If the Blue Jays don’t improve, Mattingly is expected to replace Schneider, potentially becoming the scapegoat for the team’s struggles.

Mattingly might replace John Schneider as manager after Schneider’s three seasons at the helm.

Having spent two seasons with Toronto, the sixty-three-year-old Mattingly is more than just a bench coach; he serves as an “offensive coordinator,” overseeing the hitting coaches and the team’s video coordinator.

Mattingly managed the Miami Marlins from 2016 to 2022. His record in South Beach was disappointing, with just one postseason appearance in seven seasons (443-587).

Before moving to Miami, Mattingly spent five seasons as the manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite a frugal former owner, Frank McCourt, Mattingly’s first two seasons were challenging but above .500 each year. Over the next three years, he led the Dodgers to three consecutive division titles, though they couldn’t advance past the division round twice to win the World Series.

After Andrew Friedman was named president and Farhan Zaidi as president of baseball operations, Mattingly was succeeded by Roberts, the preferred choice of the new management. Mattingly left Los Angeles with a 446-363 record and a .551 winning percentage.
