Breaking News: “Blockbuster Trade Rumor- Red Wings Poised to Land $47 Million Star Forward in Game-Changing Deal!”

The Detroit Red Wings are aiming to end their playoff drought, and a trade proposal suggests they could acquire star forward William Karlsson.

Using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, one user proposed a one-for-one trade where the Red Wings would send J.T. Compher to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Karlsson.

Karlsson, currently in the sixth year of his eight-year, $47.2 million contract signed with Vegas in 2019, would be a solid middle-six forward for Detroit, adding more offensive power. Last season, he played 70 games, tallying 30 goals and 30 assists for a total of 60 points.

In return, Vegas would receive Compher, who could fill the role of third-line center for the Golden Knights. Compher, entering the second year of his five-year, $25.5 million contract with Detroit, had 19 goals and 29 assists for 48 points in 77 games last season. He was also a crucial part of the Colorado Avalanche’s Stanley Cup-winning team in 2022.

Red Wings Coach Intrigued to See How Roster Takes Shape

The Detroit Red Wings need to trim their roster to 23 players by October 7, but head coach Derek Lalonde isn’t too concerned about the final cuts. He emphasizes that roster decisions at the start of the season aren’t as critical as they may seem, knowing more than 23 players will feature throughout the year.

“Everyone makes such a big deal about making the team on Day 1, but I’ve never understood that because Grand Rapids is only two hours away,” Lalonde explained. “By Christmas, we’ll have used 33 players. Maybe it’s an old-school mindset from 20 or 25 years ago, but in reality, we’ll probably have 15 forwards and 10 defensemen playing for us throughout the season. It’ll be interesting to see how things unfold in the next couple of days.”

One notable move by the Red Wings was placing defenseman Justin Holl on waivers. Holl, who signed a three-year, $10.2 million deal with Detroit on July 1, 2023, is among those potentially impacted by the roster cuts.

Tanner Pearson Earns Contract With Golden Knights

Vegas Golden Knights have signed veteran forward Tanner Pearson to a one-year, $775,000 contract after he impressed during training camp on a professional tryout (PTO).

Pearson, a 2012 first-round NHL draft pick, has caught the attention of Vegas head coach Bruce Cassidy. “He came as advertised,” Cassidy said. “Up and down the wing, playing with experienced guys like Brett Howden and Keegan Kolesar, he did his job. You watch the game later and see all the little things he did for us.”

Last season, Pearson played in 54 games with the Montreal Canadiens, registering 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points. Now joining his fifth NHL team, Pearson is eager to chase another Stanley Cup victory with Vegas.

“I love it. I love coming to the rink, hanging out with the guys, and competing,” Pearson shared. “Once you lift that big shiny thing (the Stanley Cup), you want to do it again. I was lucky to win with the Kings after playing 25 regular season games and 24 playoff games. Doing it again with my family now would be even more special, and I’d love to show them what it’s like to win.”

The Golden Knights kick off their 2024-25 NHL season at home on October 9 against the Colorado Avalanche.
