Brendan Rodgers will take charge of Celtic for the 49th time in European competition tonight as they face Slovan Bratislava at Parkhead.
The Hoops boss is aiming to start the revamped Champions League campaign with three points against the Slovakian side. Following this match, Celtic will face a challenging schedule with games against Borussia Dortmund (away), Atalanta (away), RB Leipzig (home), Club Brugge (home), Dinamo Zagreb (away), and Young Boys (home).
The final group-stage match is set for January 29 next year, when Celtic will travel to the Midlands to take on Aston Villa.
The Thinker…Brendan Rodgers cuts a pensive figure on the touchline.
There was disappointment in the last campaign, as Rodgers saw his side finish bottom of their group, managing only one win in six games. Celtic suffered defeats home and away to Lazio, drew 2-2 with Atletico Madrid in Glasgow, before enduring a crushing 6-0 loss in the Spanish capital—exacerbated by an early red card for Daizen Maeda.
The campaign had begun similarly in Rotterdam, where summer signings Gustaf Lagerbielke and Odin Holm were both sent off during the 2-0 defeat to Feyenoord.
Swedish defender Lagerbielke, currently on loan at FC Twente, went from villain to hero when he headed in a late winner in the return fixture against the Dutch side.
That victory, though, was only for pride. Tonight, it’s all about points.
Rodgers’ record at Celtic stands at 17 wins, nine draws, and 22 losses from his 48 matches in charge.
