BREAKING NEWS: Brendan Rodgers tackles Celtic transfer gossip

7 Celtic takeaways from Brendan Rodgers chat including Rangers perspective and new Daizen Maeda nickname - Football Scotland

In addition to offering a straightforward Celtic transfer response, Brendan Rodgers discussed his thoughts on a friendly victory over DC United.

Early in the morning UK time, the Premiership champions easily defeated the opposition 4-0 in their opening match of their American preseason tour. Before playing Chelsea to wrap up the trip, Man City is the next opponent. However, American midfielder Tanner Tessman has been linked to Celtic before of the encounter against MLS competition.

Viljami Sinisalo and Kasper Schmeichel are goalkeepers that Rodgers signed this summer. When asked about the connections after the game, the manager gave a sly gesture to the gossip community. “It’s gossip season and it’s just a rumor right now, there are a lot of rumors linked with the club,” he remarked.

“I was really pleased with the performance in terms of this stage of the season,” the manager said to Celtic TV following the game. I believe I stated prior to the game that the defensive ferocity was one of our main goals. I’ve always believed that playing with a defensive mindset encourages a quick-witted, dynamic offensive mindset.

“We really rushed the game, in my opinion. Every guy from the first whistle was in the running. They were winning the ball by taking the final step. That quickened our attacking maneuvers. We played some extremely good football on a very challenging surface. We acted in such manner when we had to defend. At this point and this level, our physicality was excellent.

“We had several young guys that came in and did incredibly well across the board. They’ve worked hard in the heat this week, so it’s been difficult for them. To come here and close up the week the way we did, scoring the goals we did—which were excellent goals—and to have a ton of other opportunities.

“Some of the kids who did well in the training were incorporated into the system, and they received rewards for participating in the games. For us, it’s another step.
