In Indiana’s 36-point loss to the New York Liberty, Clark managed just nine points.
Without a question, Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and her early-season performance have been the focus of the WNBA. It hasn’t been the best start for the first-year athlete, though, as sports commentator Colin Cowherd criticised the league for the haphazard scheduling of Indiana’s games.
The season record for the Fever is 0-2; they have lost all of their games by scores of 21 and 36, respectively. On Thursday night, they were defeated by the New York Liberty, despite the Iowa women’s basketball team only scoring nine points. Cowherd would argue that they ought to have started Clark and Indiana’s schedule earlier because they have already generated a lot of attention and money for the league.
They have never had a player who is both talented and captivating enough to propel TV ratings and marketing income, allowing the league to operate entirely off-book. Like the rest of us, they fly commercial, Cowherd remarked. It’s not that there haven’t been excellent players—quite the contrary—but Caitlin Clark, who hadn’t participated in a WNBA game until a week ago, is the first to indicate that they are putting a lot of money—literally—on her. It’s essentially a two-year departure from private aviation. They finally have this opportunity because the amount of money they plan to spend on that exceeds the WNBA payroll. Caitlyn Clark shouldn’t be used in the first four games versus Connecticut and New York. the top defensive groups.
