Millwall boss Neil Harris has revealed the discussions that led to securing the loan move of Josh Coburn from Middlesbrough on deadline day. Despite interest from multiple Championship clubs, Harris was able to persuade Boro manager Michael Carrick that Millwall’s style of play would help the 21-year-old forward develop his all-around game.

Harris explained to *Southwark News* how he outlined his plans for Coburn, ensuring that Middlesbrough were confident in the loan arrangement. He noted that both the club and the player were enthusiastic about the move, believing Coburn’s attributes fit perfectly with Millwall’s style of play.

“There’s not many players at this football club that get the Monk chant like that when they come off,” Harris added, referring to the fan support Coburn has already received, showing the striker’s early impact at the club.

Can Josh Coburn play against Middlesbrough?

Due to EFL regulations, Josh Coburn will be ineligible to feature against Middlesbrough while on loan at Millwall, as the Teessiders remain his parent club. This rule means Coburn will miss both matches against Boro, including the game at the Riverside Stadium on 14 December 2024, and the return fixture at the New Den on 12 April 2025.

In the meantime, Coburn and Millwall will focus on their upcoming match against Luton Town on Saturday, while Middlesbrough prepare to host Preston North End.
