Breaking News: Discarded Blues forward Jack Martin reportedly makes call on new club

Delisted Carlton forward Jack Martin is set to join Geelong as a free agent.

According to Herald Sun journalist Jay Clark, Martin has chosen the Cats over Fremantle for his new club after being let go by the Blues in early September.

The 29-year-old has faced numerous injuries throughout his 11-year career, including a hamstring issue that sidelined him for the latter part of this season.

Fremantle had also shown interest in Martin prior to his decision to join Geelong, even inviting him for a medical examination in September.

As a delisted free agent, Martin will be able to join Geelong without any restrictions.

If he can stay healthy, he could provide valuable depth for the Cats, who recently parted ways with premiership players Gary Rohan and Brandan Parfitt among seven other cuts at the end of the season.

Martin played just three AFL games this year and has never exceeded 15 matches in a season since moving to Ikon Park from Gold Coast at the end of 2019. Over the past four years, he has averaged just under 10 senior games per season.

Additionally, the Cats are reportedly interested in Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver, who recently met with club officials as trade speculation heats up, along with Western Bulldogs midfielder Bailey Smith, who has expressed a desire to leave.

A competitive battle is anticipated between Geelong and the Bulldogs for Smith, with many believing that Geelong’s Pick 15 may not suffice for a straight swap.
