Erik ten Hag provides triple injury update after Man Utd’s win at Southampton

Ten Hag had to withdraw Martinez
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag provided injury updates on Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, and Noussair Mazraoui following their 3-0 win against Southampton. Despite the victory, concerns arose as all three players were substituted due to apparent discomfort.
De Ligt opened the scoring with a header just before halftime, with additional goals from Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. However, fans were alarmed by De Ligt’s early exit. When asked about the defender’s condition, Ten Hag confirmed it appeared to be cramp, saying, “It looks like that, yes. At this moment, he’s not fully fit, but he’s improving and we’re happy with his progress.”

Regarding Martinez and Mazraoui, Ten Hag noted that more assessments were needed to determine the severity of their issues, which could take a few days. He acknowledged the challenges posed by early-season international duties and the toll of intercontinental travel on players.

United’s next match is on Tuesday against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup, but Ten Hag hinted that injured players Rasmus Hojlund, Luke Shaw, and Mason Mount are unlikely to be risked for that game. He added, “It’s a busy period with seven games in 22 days. We need everyone, but hopefully they will return to the squad in the coming weeks.”
