Defender Brodie Spencer of Huddersfield Town says he is “gutted and disappointed” by the club’s relegation to League One.

As the season came to an end on Saturday, Town was already virtually out of it and their fate was cemented with a 2-0 loss to Ipswich Town.

With 46 games played and 45 points earned, the Terriers finished the season six points behind Plymouth Argyle, who were in fourth place.

Town might now be playing in League One for the first time since 2012, when the Terriers were promoted after an eight-season run at the top of the league following a thrilling penalty shootout triumph against Sheffield United in the play-off final.

Town had spent most of the season hovering above the drop zone until finishing in the bottom three twice. Terriers head coach Andre Breitenreiter has said that the team needs a “complete reset” in the wake of their relegation.
