BREAKING NEWS: How Chansiri can make millions at Sheffield Wednesday if he avoids key contract error

Wednesday in Sheffield haven’t sold any players of note since Lucas Joao moved to Reading before the 2019–20 campaign began.

The popular striker was sold by Sheffield Wednesday for an alleged £5 million, making him the second-most expensive player the Owls have ever sold.

He is actually the most costly player to leave Sheffield Wednesday this century and the most costly player to leave during Dejphon Chansiri’s tenure.

Since Chansiri took over in January 2015, only Joao, Jack Hunt, and Stevie May have left Wednesday for more over £1 million.

The Owls will be kicking themselves over the situation surrounding Di’Shon Bernard’s future at the club, since it is evident that this problem has contributed to their current condition.

Di’Shon Bernard future at Sheffield Wednesday

Bernard, 23, is one of the many first-team players out of contract at Hillsborough this summer.

It follows his impressive maiden season with Sheffield Wednesday in which he’s played 32 times in the Championship, and now he’s wanted elsewhere.

And for Wednesday, potentially losing a key player in Bernard is not only a blow for Danny Rohl, but for Chansiri too, as the club could well have made a serious amount of money if they had Bernard under contract for another year or so, and sold him on.

One thing Sheffield Wednesday must ensure

Barry Bannan, the captain of the team, and Rohl both attacked Sheffield Wednesday for letting so many players go unsigned in the same summer.

The club will likely wish to steer clear of this in the future. And if the Owls can attract players this summer, they will undoubtedly offer them lengthier contracts.

Sheffield Wednesday produces good footballers under Rohl’s leadership, such as Bernard, who has expressed interest recently, most likely from a higher division in the Championship.

Bernard is now a quality young player after his stellar showing under Rohl, and Sheffield Wednesday could have sold him for as least £1 million this summer.

Whether he remains or not is up in the air. However, Wednesday has to take a lot of lessons from this case study and ensure that, moving forward, they have young players who are becoming more valuable on the transfer market, so that their sales can eventually aid in the club’s reconstruction.

Nevertheless, with the club reportedly making renovations to its training facility and preparing a new contract for Rohl, it appears like Chansiri is making an effort to make apologies this summer.

While there is undoubtedly room for improvement, Rohl is leading Sheffield Wednesday in their efforts to build a better future.
