André Breitenreiter, the manager of Huddersfield, left the team by permission.
Upon his arrival at John Smith’s Stadium in February, the German coach was powerless to prevent the Terriers’ drop from the Championship to League One.
The 50-year-old led the Yorkshire club to two wins in 13 games, but the team finished in 22nd position, along with Rotherham United and Birmingham City.
“I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with André over the past three months and he departs with our best wishes, while contingencies in place have seen our recruitment process for a new head coach advance,” said Huddersfield owner and chairman Kevin Nagle in a statement.
“Supporters can be certain that all decisions are taken with our club’s best interests in mind. We look forward to moving forward with a new head coach who is committed to our values and vision, keeping our preseason preparations and goals for the upcoming year unchanged.
As the season came to an end last week, Huddersfield has not yet disclosed who they have retained.
After Jordan Rhodes’ productive loan at Bloomfield Road, where he scored 15 goals in the first half of the season, Blackpool supporters will be closely monitoring Rhodes’ position.
The 34-year-old’s contract with the Terriers expires this summer, and he has already expressed interest in going back to the Fylde Coast.
It’s unclear if Rhodes’ future at John Smith’s Stadium would be affected by any managerial changes at the stadium or if a decision has already been taken about the former Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday player, regardless of Breitenreiter’s replacement.
