Milliyet reports that John Lundstram declined Rangers’ initial contract extension offer.
The Turkish media stated on their website on April 6 that the Englishman’s position has been pushed into action by Trabzonspor’s interest in signing him on a free transfer when his contract ends in the summer.
However, despite the Gers reportedly stretching their limitations to complete a deal for the former Sheffield United midfielder, he is claimed to have been unimpressed with their initial offer.
Rangers and the crucial player have been in talks for some time, with Philippe Clement expressing confidence in a deal. However, no agreement has been achieved yet.
Is John Lundstram’s future with the Rangers jeopardised?
Unless Clement is putting pressure on the Ibrox administration to keep Lundstram, the 30-year-old is likely to stay in Govan. Otherwise, the manager would not have made such a strong claim.
However, despite both the Belgian and the player publicly expressing that they wish to extend his stay at the club, there must be something blocking the deal from being completed and published yet.
If there is buy-in from both parties, it would imply that either Lundstram is asking for too much or the Rangers are attempting to underbid him.
Either possibility would come as a surprise, considering that all sides appear to be publicly committed to reaching an agreement.
